Hey guys, still working on specifics for the Broken Blades while developing more Terran Union stuff which this is unit is very much a part of. How do you like this for an insignia?

The Broken Blades (Small Combat Team)
Not everyone was happy with the Federated Commonwealth alliance and some Davion soldiers elected to strike out on their own as a result. The Broken Blades are one of the largest groups that did so taking their family owned machines and leaving the AFFS for profit in 3041. While their four lances of BattleMechs isn't impressive on its own the Blades supporting forces are quite large for a mercenary command. Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Braddock was able to assemble over two thousand combat personnel from the former AFFS in such a short time into which he calls a Small Combat Team (SCT). This combined arms regiment is effectively a portion of a Davion hallmark organization and has drawn much interest on its own. The Broken Blades have operated successfully as raiders working mainly for minor lords and security for private industries throughout their time of operation. Hired by the Free Worlds League during Operation Guerrero they were only too happy to see the fall of the Lyran corrupted monstrosity that was the Sarna March. Afterwards Commandant Emilio Valeria approached Braddock about combining several smaller mercenary commands to establish a far larger one. With larger dreams of growing his own command into a larger portion of a Davion Combat Team the Lieutenant Colonel accepted but has thus far been frustrated with the entire affair.

They have significant supporting assets which they call a SCT or Small Combat Team. Together with a Company of BattleMechs they are supported by a battalion of armor, two battalions of infantry, a company of (6) aerospace fighters, and an artillery lance.

Thank you, that is a great question. What would a typical AFFS unit circa 3039 be made up of? Would it be made up of the Mobile Long Tom (LT-MOB-25 Mobile Long Tom Artillery Vehicle) exclusively?? I don't really think enough of the Star League era Marksman, the Padilla Heavy Artillery Tank, or the Thor Combat Vehicle exist to justify their presence here in a mercenary unit that to be frank isn't all that exceptional to excuse their rarity. The TAV-1 Thumper Artillery Vehicle is a possibility here and if we go all vehicles for this Artillery Lance would probably be three supporting units around a leading Long Tom Artillery Vehicle.

Or would you go for the far less mobile Artillery Pieces. Again, here I think the lostech Arrow IV Artillery Missile System would be out for the Broken Blades Artillery Lance (thinking of a nickname now) as it is too 'new' at the time of their creation. That leaves Sniper Artillery Piece, Thumper Artillery Piece, and Long Tom Artillery Piece to serve as a more foot infantry reliant lance.

Currently I've been going over the Armored Battalion and mainly I envision a Heavy Cavalry force to augment the Mech force with a mechanized infantry force to keep up with everyone else. After all, wouldn't being combined arms capable or functional in regards to movement be a critical factor for this force??

Than an Air Cav one.

There is the Ballista or the one produced in the Periphery (I can't find it right now but it might be a bit later).

I have more of a Heavy Cavalry (nicknamed the Jagged Edge) in mind rather than an Air Cavalry for the Armored Battalion. I did consider the more mobile Helicopter and Hover based force that would glide ahead of the Broken Blades but I opted to go with a more heavy sweep force of tanks (tracked vehicles). Nothing subtle about these guys as they often accompany the Mech force into battle and work in close support augmenting their tactical firepower.

As for the artillery lance I just looked up the Ballista and your right it is available.

So, we could do a Tracked Vehicle lance that fits very well with the Heavy Cavalry Battalion outlined above.

1 LT-MOB-25 Mobile Long Tom Artillery Vehicle
1 Ballista Self-Propelled Artillery Tank
2 TAV-1 Thumper Artillery Vehicles

How do you like the nickname 'Shattered Steel' for this Mobile Artillery Lance?

The Infantry would likely follow this pattern as a Heavy Mechanized force which in true combined arms fashion would further augment this unit. How about the Iron Razors and the Sharp Scraps? I feel like the 1st Battalion is the best of the best and the 2nd is the leftovers. Naturally rivalry.

Ice Hellion

Interesting mix.

Are the companies operating together or are they just administrative things and the units get deployed on a Lance per Lance basis in a combined-arms approach ? I hope I am clear with my question.

The 1st and 2nd battalions are infantry right? Does the quality make such a difference?

Guess it depends on what you mean by combined-arms approach. I see them working hand in hand with the Mech units often screening and augmenting their offensive or defensive maneuvers.

They are both skilled formations (I'd say Veteran or Regular) but equipment is the real telltale. Best stuff goes to the 1st. 2nd gets leftovers.

Ice Hellion

By combined-arms approach, I wanted to know at which level do you plan to mix the different arms?
One company made of Lances/Platoon from different arms? At battalion level with full companies? At the lance level (like the Eridani Light Horse of old)?

Operational, yes. Administratively, no.

Don't forget ComStar/WoB too. They really mash different arms into their Platoons (aka Level IIs) as well.

Did you write something else?

I was busy with works at home and obviously no computer but now I am back.
